Where Gujarat’s 2026 medical class actually landed: 55 colleges, college by college
The committee’s admitted-candidate list up to round 2 runs to 211 pages. It shows the big government colleges seated at around 212 students each, the newest GMERS campuses at exactly 84, and ESIC Naroda at 18.
Buried in a 211-page PDF published on 19 September is the clearest picture anyone has of Gujarat's 2026-27 medical intake: the institute-wise list of every candidate admitted up to round 2, across 55 medical and dental colleges. Here is what it shows.
The largest intakes
- Dr. M. K. Shah Medical College, Ahmedabad: 231
- Government Medical College, Vadodara: 213
- B. J. Medical College, Ahmedabad: 212
- Government Medical College, Surat: 212
- M. P. Shah Government Medical College, Jamnagar: 211
- GMERS Gotri, Vadodara: 200
- GMERS Junagadh, Himmatnagar and Vadnagar: 199 each
- GMERS Gandhinagar: 198; GMERS Valsad: 197; GMERS Sola and Dharpur Patan: 196 each
The newest campuses are all the same size
Four GMERS colleges (Morbi, Navsari, Porbandar and Godhra) each admitted exactly 84 candidates, made up of 70 government-quota seats and 14 management seats. GMERS Rajpipla sits just behind at 83. That uniformity is the signature of a newer college running at its approved starting intake rather than a mature one.
The small and the specialised
ESIC Medical College, Naroda admitted 18 through this route, and Vaidik Dental College, Daman just 12. On the dental side the bigger intakes were A.M.C. Dental College, Ahmedabad (112), Siddhpur Dental College (104), and the two government dental colleges at Ahmedabad (102) and Jamnagar (100).
What a 2027 aspirant should take from it
Two things. First, the state's capacity is no longer concentrated in the six old government colleges. The GMERS network now accounts for a large share of government-quota MBBS seats, and its newer campuses are where a mid-range merit number actually converts. Second, the private colleges with the largest intakes are not the ones with the highest closing merit; size and selectivity are different axes, and a choice list built only on a college's reputation ignores both.
